Mara Pictures was inspired by a passion to provide a platform for both international and domestic independent filmmakers to showcase their films across the UK. We aim to entice, allure and provoke audiences with a wide range of groundbreaking films from features to documentaries.

Sanam handles Marketing and Public Relations for Mara Pictures. After her BA in Communications from Bennington College, Sanam supported the release of international films in New York City through strategic marketing and promotion to reach target audiences. Following her MA in Media from SOAS at the University of London, Sanam managed the overall film marketing and distribution for Box Office- the leading representative for Hollywood studios in Pakistan.

Sanam handles marketing and sales for new media companies in London focusing on the promotion of film and is involved in PR for international film festivals through Mara’s sister company SH Media (www.shmedia.biz).

Living between the US, UK and Pakistan, Sanam developed a passion for promoting new kinds of cinema to audiences and has enabled this vision through the co-creation of Mara Pictures.

Roopa is responsible for Acquisitions and Sales for Mara Pictures. She began her professional life as a journalist in New York, where she also completed an MA in Media Studies at New School University. Her overpowering interest in world cinema led her towards a career in film beginning with a short-term contract in India where she worked for a documentary production company managing productions and organizing screenings. She later settled in London to complete a PhD in film studies at Goldsmiths College.

Roopa has worked in the independent film sector for several years as a festival coordinator for the London Asian Film Festival Tongues on Fire, and with exhibitors like Bafta and ICA to bring global films to cinemas across the UK. Her professional and academic background in film and media inspired her to co-develop Mara Pictures as a leading pulse of foreign independent cinema.
